Our Mission & Structure Mission is supported by our congregation through the mission programs of Newton Presbytery, the Synod of the Northeast and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as well as local projects, such as the Denville food pantry. The Session is the governing body of the church, an important expression of our Presbyterian heritage and identity. The Session is composed of nine Elders and the Pastor, who serves as Moderator. Elders are members of the congregation who are elected to three year terms, and are ordained to their work of service. The Board of Deacons guides the compassionate ministries of the church. Deacons are elected by the congregation, and are ordained to the Diaconal ministry. Their mission includes, but is not limited to, contacting members in need or with special concerns, maintaining a tape ministry that offers recordings of worship services to people who are sick or homebound, and help with transportation to and from Church. Membership includes the privileges of voting on important matters, electing officers and serving on church boards. If you are interested in learning more about membership, please contact the pastor. If want to learn more about the governing and organizational structure of the Presbyterian Church, visit the official web site for the Presbyterian Church USA Church Leadership This provides all members an opportunity to participate in doing God's work at Union Hill because it is only through volunteers who give their time and talents in these numberous and varied roles that Union Hill remains a vibrant church - a church that brings Jesus and God's word into the communities we live and serve. Revisions will be made periodically as changes occur in these roles. |
